sweet memory :)
This was one of the kindest moments in Anna Calvi's concert last 17th.
"Bleed Into Me" was her 13th song and the 1st one of the encore.
I was filming this, but I only have the beginning and the end 'cause my battery was gone at the middle.
So here we have an alternative. Enjoy :)
Happy holidays everybody :)

echoes from yesterday
Yesterday I was surprised by the amazing performance of this unknown guy playing piano and singing all alone, supporting the 1st part of the last concert of Anna Calvi's 2013 Tour.
Though Patrick O'Leary has a full hand of good songs, some better than this one (in my opinion), this is the only song available on-line. And it is the song that closed his show last night. However, we have here all "I Have A Tribe" band, another nice surprise for me, 'cause this song in particular makes much more sense like this :)

From Galicia with love
A poem from Manuel Curros Enríquez, a fighter for the cause of the Galician language at 1800s, dedicated to Rosalía de Castro, poetess from the same cause, composed and adapted to Portuguese by José Niza and firstly sang by Adriano Correia de Oliveira in 1971, and now brilliantly covered by Vicente, son of Jorge Palma:
Coming by the beach sand, I saw her passing. A star on the forehead, a song on her lips. Coming so lonely in the endless night, That I even prayed for the poor crazy. Me, I have no one to pray for me... Me, I have no one to pray for me. Muse of the people that passing I saw. Eaten by wolves. Eaten she died. It's her bones you're saving. Ah, those who have a star on their forehead! Ah, those who have a song on their lips! Coming by the beach sand, I saw her passing. A star on the forehead, a song on her lips. |

Kings of Maybe has 5 years. And for a week, we're going to remember some songs we posted.
I'm starting with a song I heard in March 2009. There were no good clips at all about it, but I loved the song and I posted it here with the stuff I found then.
Much later, some good clips were made, as this official one:

5 years KoM
5 years already :D
This blog started after some experiences I made in some social networks, mostly related to Angola, Africa, and about how we miss that land. As social networks, we shared a bit of everything. Music too, because we can't think of Africa without thinking of music. And so we shared African music and I made a space for other kind of sounds. One of those spaces, was quite similar to Kings of Maybe. I kept some posts in Resgate Som, an archive blog.
And we are continuing that sharing experience of feelings or sounds or music or all together, here. And it's been great :)
Now that I talked about Angola, I present you these guys from that land. They sing its beauty, their poor people and fight for life, but most of all, they talk about fun. Let's have some fun with them :D
(PS: the 2nd video clip is gone, that's why there's this one recorded later than this post)

4 years after, AS
"For the right to Difference", António Sérgio built his radio shows with pearls and other ingredients from many places and generations. He had the pleasure of thematic disclosure. The folk origin music from any part of the World, had regular place on his shows. He showed us dozens of fabulous artists that no one else would show in most of the World, as the Irish Andy White or Davy Spillane... And so is with Davy and his Uilleann Pipes laments that I recall the great magician of music revelation, who left us 4 years ago. "May the Sound be with you".

L O O K
there are not only seagulls onshore, when a man stands thinking. Who's coming there, sleeps at night in the sand, sleeps at night by the sea. And if there is a square of mature people. And a statue, and a statue burning of fever. There's someone searching by the dark night and no one will want to help. Look, the frail figure of that man grubbing the paths of bread. And if there is a square of mature people, no one comes to raise him from the ground. |

and so they moved ...
... 6 weeks ago as NPR says:
The Tiny Desk has moved, and OK Go has helped make it so.
Earlier this year, we needed to figure out the best possible way to move my Tiny Desk from NPR's old headquarters to our new facility just north of the U.S. Capitol.
We wanted to go out with a bang and arrive at our new space in style, so our thoughts naturally turned to a catchy pop band we love: OK Go, whose unforgettable videos have been viewed tens of millions of times on YouTube.
Bandleader Damian Kulash used to be an engineer at an NPR member station in Chicago, so we figured he'd be up for helping us execute a simple idea: Have OK Go start performing a Tiny Desk Concert at our old location, continue playing the same song while the furniture and shelving is loaded onto a truck, and finish the performance at our new home. ...
OK Go played "All Is Not Lost" from Of the Blue Colour of the Sky, with words tweaked by the All Songs Considered team.
And so begins a new era for the Tiny Desk, after 277 concerts (counting this one) in our old home.
