Nouveau Western plus Bonnie and Clyde

MC Solaar (Claude Honoré M'Barali, born in Dakar) is a French rapper who sampled Serge Gainsbourg's "Bonnie and Clyde" in 1994, long before many artists covered the same song in tribute to Serge, who was rediscovered in the first decade of this century, reborning as a cult artist since then.

Later, Dean Wareham with Britta Phillips, made some amazing covers of that song, as follows.

The original, Serge Gainsbourg with Brigitte Bardot in 1968:

And one more by Dean and Britta:

bonsoir

Je te laisserai des mots. En-dessous de ta porte. En-dessous de les murs qui chantent. Tout près de la place où tes pieds passent. Cachés dans les trous de ton divan. Et quand tu es seule pendant un instant.
Ramasse-moi. Quand tu voudras.
Embrasse-moi. Quand tu voudras.
Ramasse-moi. Quand tu voudras.

L'oiseau chante

The "Flower Duet", became well known due to the 1983 cult film The Hunger performed by David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve. In 1989, it was adapted by Malcolm McLaren and Yanni for British Airways "face" advertisements, being named "Aria".
The "Flower Duet" is a song from the 1st act of the opera Lakmé composed by Léo Delibes' in 1881/82 and debuted in Paris in April 1883, almost 140 years ago and precisely 100 years before the release of the film The Hunger.
I selected the start of the video from the most known 2nd part of the song.

Have a happy Spring :)

Joyeuse Saint Valentin

"Black Eyes", originally written in 1843 by the Ucranian poet Yevhen Hrebinka for his first wife Maria Vasilyevna, became popular as a song by the Russian opera singer Fédor Chaliapine. Later, a most known version was made by the Italian-born British composer Adalgiso Ferraris who also played this song with the name "Dark Eyes" in a movie. The song became very popular and wrongly known as "Russian traditional" and was played by many artists, including the French jazz guitarist and composer Jean "Django" Reinhardt. "Les Yeux Noirs" the version shown here, is a cover of Django's version made by the American musical duo Pomplamoose, composed of husband-and-wife Jack Conte and Nataly Dawn who spent her childhood in France and Belgium.
Enjoy :)

oh no

I Love you Oh No, is a very funny song made by the Japanese New Wave band The Plastics in 1979. Despite this band short success and living, they saw their hit covered several times, like this one by the amazing Françoise Cactus and her little band Stereo Total in 1999 and changing the title a bit intentionally.
Below, an original from Stereo Total, sung in German and in French.
Françoise passed away one month ago.

quatre mains

And the beating heart. Like a four-hands we play the chorus. No embarrassment. You'll not want me.
And what's over there? It's the four-hands played in vain between you and me. It's the beating heart.

The age of feelings.
We don't care when we reinvent them every time like an inexhaustible battery, both ecological and sordid.
It is the recycling of love. Brief and intense.
I am looking at you. What are you waiting for?

Bonnie and Clyde

You've heard the story of Jesse James? Of how he lived and died?
If you're still in need of something to read, here's the story of Bonnie and Clyde.
Now, Bonnie and Clyde are the Barrow gang. I am sure you all have read how they were and still.
And those who still are usually found dying or dead.
They call them cold hearted killers. They say they are heartless and mean.
But I say this with pride. That I once knew Clyde when he was honest and upright and clean.
But the laws fold around kept taking him down and locking him up in a cell
'Til he said to me: "I'll never be free", so I'll meet a few of them in hell
If a policeman is killed in Dallas, and they have no clue or guide
If they can't think or find, they just wipe their slake clean and hang it on Bonnie and Clyde.
If they try to act like citizens and rent them a nice little flat
About the third night they're invited to fight by a sub gun's rat tat tat.
Some day they'll go down together. They'll bury them side by side.
To few it will be grief to the law a relief. But it's death for Bonnie and Clyde

ça plane pour moi

Heard this band Whyte Horses from Manchester singing this old punk song from Plastic Bertrand, the Belgian musician Roger Jouret.
Whyte Horses exists for more than 5 years and they have some pretty known songs. However, it was this cover out one month ago, that caught my attention.
Ça Plane Pour Moi has been covered through decades by dozens of artists (including Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kim Wilde, etc) and I love this version from another Belgium band:

And now, Plastic Bertrand, Roger Jouret himself:

L'amour, c'est quoi?

She lived in the forest .. In a hut, as she said .. She used to sleep when she wanted .. Never worked

Sarong knotted in the back .. Fruits, flowers and birds .. The taste of salt on her skin .. She was beautiful, I was handsome

Under a canopy of tulle .. A candle, a moonlight .. Our two bodies in a bubble .. Heart and fortune

We did not talk about love .. What is love? .. We never spoke of love .. The great love did not exist

She smoked, I kissed her .. She cooked, I hugged her .. She was dancing, I was singing .. In English, in Javanese

Naked under my apron I revived .. Abandoned under scented kisses

We did not talk about love .. What is love? .. We never spoke of love .. The great love did not exist

It was love. I know .. Until the end of July .. She smiled, but I guessed .. The wind had turned

Distraught by the Scarecrow .. What a monumental mistake .. Love, the true, the beautiful .. Had run off

C'est pas la mer à boire

C'est pas la mer à boire. C'est-à-dire pas de problème ou it's no big deal, it's not the sea to drink.

une histoire à Lisbonne

"saudade" En ce mai de fous messages .. J'ai un rendez-vous dans l'air .. Inattendu et clair .. Déjà je pars à ta découverte .. Ville bonne et offerte .. C'est l'attrait du danger .. Qui me mène à ce lieu .. C'est d'instinct .. Qu'tu me cherches et approches .. Je sens que c'est toi. C'est à l'aube que se ferment .. Tes prunelles marina .. Sous quel meridien se caresser .. Dans mes bras te cacher .. Dans ces ruelles fantômes .. Ou sur cette terrasse .. Où s'écrase un soleil .. Tu m'enseignes ..
:-) have a nice weekend
