Deep Sea Diver - Let Me Go
These artists are virtually unknown in Europe. And when I first heard this excellent song, I thought the style sounded very similar to Sharon Van Etten... Maybe it is just this song... Curiously, Jessica Dobson and her band Deep Sea Diver started their career by 2007, as Sharon. Madison Cunningham is younger, but as been on the road for 10 years already.

safe inside, again
As songs that go forgotten ; are found, remembered, loved and sung again ; the father of all kindness ; the lover of all souls, will come to find us. And if I can remain there ; and if I can remain there, I will stay. And I will live another day... A smallness there's no shame in ; a gift that's bigger than the Black Sea heaving. And if I can remain there ; In that heaven of her eyes ; I'll find a tiny paradise and no goodbyes. And if I can remain there ; and if I can remain there, I will stay. And I will live another day. Safe. Safe inside. Where angels soft as kisses ride on gentle horses. Safe inside the day, inside the song. Safe inside. If laughing big and silent pride, on gentle horses. Safe inside the day, inside the song. Safe inside ...

Eternamente
Pablo Milanés (1943-2022) was a Cuban composer and singer, well known mostly in Latin countries. He was married six times. For his second wife, Yolanda Benet (of French ancestry) he composed the famous love song "Yolanda" when Lynn, the first of their three daughters, was born in 1970. Their marriage only lasted five years. However, a profound friendship between them was shown publicly mostly during Pablo's last years of life, when he was fighting against his terminal disease.
Lynn, as some of Pablo's nine children, became a singer.
Here's "Yolanda" performed by Pablo and his companion Silvio Rodríguez Domínguez. Silvio and Pablo were leaders of the Cuban musical movement Nueva Trova, started in 1967 and fading by the late 70's.

Blondie, 50 years ago.
50 years ago, at CBGBs on August 15, 1975, Debbie Harry (then 30 years old) and her punk band Blondie, performed this concert presenting a cover of Velvet Underground's "Femme Fatale".
I also included in this selection the following song, "Lullaby". This song was remade later with other lyrics and renamed "Just Go Away". It was included in Blondie's third studio album "Parallel Lines", released on September 8, 1978.

apple of my eye, take 2
"Apple of my eye": something or someone that one cherishes above all others.
"Apple of my eye", a 2007 song by Dolores O'Riordan (from the band Cranberries), here, performing it live in London and in Paris, 2007.
As the days go by
The apple of my eye
I'll always wait for you
And as a new day dawns
The darkness moves away
And I will wait for you
Remember remember
The face of you
Surrender Surrender
The touch of you
Well it's a hard to hold
The room is turning cold
The candles flickers still
And what I would not do
For the love of you
Would you hold on to me?
...
I will remember, I will remember the face of you
I will remember, I will remember the touch of you
apple of my eye, take 1
"Apple of my eye": something or someone that one cherishes above all others.
"Apple of my eye", a 2001 song by Ed Harcourt, here, performing it live in 2017 and 2024.
When you're on your own
You walk in the rain
You walk around the house
Then walk around it again
You pretend you're happy
That you've got it all
But don't be upset
If you fall on your knees
And beg like a dog
I've reached a low,
Don't you know
You're the apple of my eye
I'm running low, with this show
No matter how I try
I'm sick of this angst,
Don't need thanks
You're the apple of my eye
I drink a lot of wine
When I am alone
I lose my track of time
My ideas turn to stone
I pretend I'm sad
That I'm still so small
But I'm not upset If
I fall on my knees
And beg like a dog
I've reached a low,
Don't you know
You're the apple of my eye
I'm running low, with this show
No matter how I try
I'm sick of this angst,
Don't need thanks
You're the apple of my eye

I send her my love and a bang on the ear
A bang on the ear, is a pat or a gentle touch to the top of someone's head, as a gesture of affection.
Have a nice Sunday :)
The Waterboys, Mike Scott's band, with the legendary violinist Steve Wickham. 1988 studio version.
And live in Glasgow, 2013.
Lindsay was my first love she was in my class
I would have loved to take her out but I was too shy to ask
The fullness of my feeling was never made clear
But I send her my love and a bang on the ear
Nora was my girl when I first was in a group
I can still see her to this day, stirring chicken soup
Now she's living in Australia working for an auctioneer
But I send her my love and a bang on the ear
Deborah broke my heart and I the willing fool
I fell for her one summer on the road to Liverpool
I thought it was forever but it was over in a year (oh dear)
But I send her my love and a bang on the ear
The home I made with Bella became a house of pain
We weathered it together bound by a ball and chain
Is started up in Fife, and ended up in tears
But I send her my love and a bang on the ear
Krista was a rover from Canada she hailed
We crossed swords in San Francisco we both lived to tell the tale
I don't know now where she is oh but if I had her here
I'd give her my love and a bang on the ear
So my woman of the hearthfire, harbour of my soul
I watch you lightly sleeping and sense the dream that does unfold (like gold)
You to me are treasure, you to me are dear
So I'll give you my love and a bang on the ear

Ana Lua Caiano
Here's the song "Adormeço sem dizer para onde vou" (I fall asleep without saying where I'm going) about her wandering dreams.
Adormeço sem dizer para onde vou E fico lá correndo, dormindo, morrendo Mas não me acordes, meu amor Nunca me acordes Nem que grite e que chore Sou uma afónica elegante Acordo e não digo onde vou E ando às voltas fugindo e recuando Mas não me encontres, meu amor Nunca me encontres Nem que grite e que chore Gosto de monologar Leio sem te dizer ondе estou E ando às voltas, desprezando E pеnsando Não me atrapalhes, meu amor Não me atrapalhes Nem que grite e que chore Gosto de monologar Desta vez não vieste atrás de mim P'ra me arrumares Desta vez doaste-me Ao ar que encontro |
I fall asleep without saying where I'm going And I stay there running, sleeping, dying But don't wake me, my love Never wake me Even if I scream and cry I'm an elegant voiceless person I wake up and don't say where I'm going And I walk around running and retreating But don't find me, my love Never find me Even if I scream and cry I like to monologue I read without telling you where I am And I walk around, despising And thinking Don't disturb me, my love Don't disturb me Even if I scream and cry I like to monologue This time you didn't come after me To fix me This time you gave me To the air I find |

Sara Correia. From the people to the people
Sara Correia is a young Portuguese singer of Fado, the urban traditional genre of song of Lisbon.
Fado are mostly soulful songs and were originally created centuries ago by a mixture of local musicians and Portuguese Guitar players with local communities of immigrants, mixing their soulful songs with Portuguese guitars.
Sara Correia is precisely a descendent from those communities, growing up and living in one of "people's neighbourhoods", Chelas.
Now, that she is a famous artist, she decided to thank her neighbours and friends, giving them a free concert.
Here's her song of proud of her origins: "I come from my neighborhood, from my window I count the stars (estrelas/stellas). I'm not from anywhere else, I'm from Chelas."
And now, Sara expressing her gratitude to her most important reference, Amália Rodrigues.

the wandering
Patrick Watson and MARO.
Woke up a bit slowly feeling a bit lonely . But here we are . Got a nowhere kinda fever like melancholy’s a-dreaming . And that’s my favourite kind of feeling . Don’t know where we’re going . Don’t know where we’ve been . It’s that strange kind of wind again.
Your feet are a hanging off of this train dreaming . Up the world walking by . Wandered through the strangers . Too quick for them to notice . Who you are . I don’t know anybody . And no one knows me . I could be anything . And you're my favourite company . You and I in disguise watching the world . Wonder by . Aaaaaah
We went everywhere . We went everywhere.
Four of spades pulls up in her car . And I’m standing outside the bar . She says get in we’re gonna drive drive too far.
Wrapped in my foreign heart . I don’t know where we are . Can’t remember my name . And she feels the same . And know we’ll be sad . At the end of the road . We don’t want this conversation to end anymore.
Don’t know where we’re going . Don’t know where we have been .
Since we were young . Partes de mim deixo onde vou . And the hills were on fire . São tantas as vezes que esqueço o que sou . Ou onde estou agora . Everything sang to me . Ai, eu já não sei se quero ir embora . Ou se quero ficar . We went everywhere . We went everywhere . Ou se quero ficar . Aaaaaaah

bonsoir
Je te laisserai des mots. En-dessous de ta porte. En-dessous de les murs qui chantent. Tout près de la place où tes pieds passent. Cachés dans les trous de ton divan. Et quand tu es seule pendant un instant.

Embrasse-moi. Quand tu voudras.
Ramasse-moi. Quand tu voudras.

Vino Dragostea
Sofia Leão, only 18 years old, is a Portuguese composer and musician and daughter of our known Rodrigo Leão. She released her 1st album "Mar" (Sea) one month ago. Most songs are sung in Portuguese, one in English and this one, in Italian, Vino Dragostea, a very nice song, kinda old traditional troubadour song about some loose ideas like: Dragostea Wine, weak current of Satan, you go with this current ... The sea embraces the moon, the moon embraces the sea ... and you depend on yourself.

Sharon Van Etten and The Attachment Theory
Full Performance, KCRW Live.
A masterpiece. Hard to tell which songs I prefere:
Live Forever, Afterlife, Idiot Box, Trouble, I Can't Imagine (Why You Feel This Way), Somethin' Ain't Right, Southern Life (What It Must Be Like), Fading Beauty, I Want You Here.
My today's song
Bon Iver singing the heartbreaking song Love More with his friend and the song composer Sharon Van Etten.
SO touching, SO beautiful.
Don't Do It, a take two
This was my yesterday's song.
It was posted 1stly here
Sharon said to KEXP: "I definitely wrote it with people in mind. Suicide is obviously immediate. People that have mental health issues, that don't take care of themselves or don't know how to, or don't know how to reach out for help, and how helpless they are and how helpless you feel as a friend. ... Even though sometimes I get embarrassed of how, when you just look at lyrics on a page without the music, I'm like, 'if you want to do it, you want to do it, even if I don't want you to.' Like, alone looking at those lyrics, I get embarrassed. But a lot of it is the emotion behind it that makes it feel that much more tangible, and maybe elusive at the same time. It's still a complex thought, to be honest."

Here's some videos I recorded from her last concert, 3 days ago.

Psycho Killer, 50 years
... plus one.
Psycho Killer was 1stly performed live in 1974 by the band Artistics, which became the Talking Heads.
Supposedly, Talking Heads 1st live show in CBGB, happened precisely 50 years ago, on 5th of June 1975.
And so, the Talking Heads just released a video commemorating that ... fact. The video shows a disturbed woman in her daily life.
And now, one of the some (3?) Talking Heads performances in CBGB on 1975.

Have a beautiful Valentine's Day
My wife is not mine, she is of her mind. Even though she thinks so, she doesn't need me. That's what I like about her.
She doesn't want to be my world, but she has me in her desires. I can see it in her eyes, the clear presence of our adventures.
She flies with her fantastic birds, agnostics, friendly, by fields of reasons. And when she comes back she brings me sweets.
She does not show herself in the window, with her body illuminated. But she shows the universe, to hunting animals, when she goes down to the market.
She descends from the hair of the stars, right under the ghosts' noses, that she learned to disassemble. And she ends up turning them into toys.
My wife is not mine, she is of her mind. Even though she thinks so, she doesn't need me. That's what I like about her.
She is the captain of her ship.

Heart of Gold revisited
"Heart of Gold" is a treasure.
Jane Weaver's version of that song, is undoubtedly one the best covers of all but, it is shamefully forgotten even in covers lists about this song. It was recorded in 2010 for the album Harvest Revisited released by Mojo Magazine in February 2011, celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Harvest.
On 21st September 2024, Neil Young performed "Heart of Gold" at Farm Aid.
And here, Neil Young again, playing it at BBC Radio Theatre, London, on 23th February 1971. This BBC concert was included in the album "Harvest 50th Anniversary Edition" released on December 2, 2022.

David Lynch
David Lynch, 1946/01/20 - 2025/01/16.
A multitalented artist and the filmmaker of dreams and nightmares.
Suffering from emphysema since at least 2022, Lynch was evacuated from his home due to the Southern California wildfires happening since 7 of January. "These events preceded a terminal decline in his health", Deadline Hollywood reported.
He wrote many songs, mostly lyrics for songs to be played in his movies.
"Sycamore Trees" and "The World Spins" were some of those songs brilliantly used in his weird dreams put in films.
Thank you very much Mr Lynch.
