I agree with you. Despite the irony (painful, though) of Josh Tillman (Father John Misty) the TV audience in general is so idiot, they want to hear themselves so much, that they can't even respect the artist and cover the song with their stupid noise! Too bad, this is the only performance with orchestra so far, which has even been broadcasting on the radio, also with the laughs, not so loud, though! Despite there are some solo performances with guitar for more than one year, I loved so much this performance with orchestra, that I wanted to post it by the thanksgiving (due to some implicit message) but I was too busy for it. It was a brand new thing then and I didn't know if there was any clip yet. I guess the album just came out or is about to...
no, it isn't really the audience! this is what they do in television and why it is called canned laughter, it is pre-recorded laughter and noise and clapping that the studios use on camera. it is not real, that is why it is even worse. the audience isn't stupid, they would never laugh at a song or during a song. blame the network and Letterman. the song with the orchestra is amazing!
Oh sorry, I didn't notice the expression "canned", you're so right! In fact I found the 1st laughs unnatural. WTF??? Also noticed that "John"s piano plays by itself...
