Muxima

There are two important rivers near Luanda, Angola. Kwanza at South and Bengo at North. Since 1599 there's a sanctuary to Our Lady at Muxima, Bengo's riverside.
It's a place of great devotion and this old song says: if you say I'm a sorcerer, take me to Muxima and I'll prove you I'm not.

Have a faithful week :)

4 years Kings of Maybe :)

Let's party! :D

This year, I don't talk about the statistics because I noticed that the counts prior to July 2010 have disappeared by that time. Dear Blogger...
But we had nearly 27,000 visits. Lately, most of them came from Russia and Ukraine :) I want to thank everyone. We love you. All :D

Yeah, I know I posted this song before. But this is a take 2 and it's party and I don't care :^|

Have a peaceful Sunday :)

3 years after. António Sérgio.

Bring on dozens of websites, or hundreds of podcasts, that absolutely nothing is comparable to the rendezvous for two hours of pure magic. It was an alchemy that only António Sérgio dominated with a delightful mastery.
Here we have two dark songs from Mark Lanegan, one of his favorite artists. Following rhythmically the 2nd, we have one of the first things I heard from the hand of António Sérgio, back in 1980.

"Take care"

Couldn't resist to post this. It has a deepness and a certain joy not easy to find as you can see :^|
"I play tennis, ball comes and go, comes and go. And now I won! I play tennis, play tennis, play tennis. I play tennis, ball goes up and down, up and down, up and down. And now I lost, I play tennis, play tennis, play tennis! Advantage out! Advantage in! ... I play tennis, hit strong, weak, strong, weak ... " (LOL) :D

Have a funny weekend :)

Pretty? I'd say fantastic.

"Good sister, bad sister" was echoing the other day in my mind and then I was surprised by this refreshing Toasted Heavy Cream posted by Val, so girlie post punk / grunge as Courtney. To tell the truth I haven't listen to this kind of music for a long time and so I even wasn't sure about which band was hers and I only remembered of L7...
So I refreshed myself a little. Be my gest and join me :)

black-eyed angels

So this was the concert setlist: Bloom, 15 Step, Morning Mr. Magpie, Staircase, Weird Fishes/Arpeggi, The Gloaming, Separator, Pyramid Song, I Might Be Wrong, Climbing Up the Walls, Nude, Exit Music (for a Film), Lotus Flower, There There, Feral, Bodysnatchers. Encore: Give Up the Ghost, Reckoner, Lucky, Paranoid Android, Everything In Its Right Place [with "The One I Love" (REM) intro], Idioteque. Encore 2: Street Spirit (Fade Out).
It was magical... I'd like to make a sequence starting from the last post (Give Up the Ghost) but I already posted Reckoner and Lucky before.
So I'm going to post something very special, "Pyramid Song":

I dedicate this post to the 1st guy who made me love Johann Sebastian Bach when I still was a young boy: Jon Lord.

10 years after

Too pity I failed Mazzy Star and the Kills, but at least I didn't fail Radiohead.

10 years is a long wait and so 55.000 people (some thousands from outher countries too) came to see them. And it was a fantastic concert.
I think I never heard this song before but it sounded beautiful there, at night, close to the sea, with seagulls flying in the dark.

I'll be back to this concert :)

the fault

The fault is not in the sun, If my body get burned ... ... The fault is not in the wind, If my voice be silent ... ... The fault is in the wish, that I have inside me ... The fault is in the wish.

Just some loose verses to get the spirit of this thoughts.
Have a beautiful Weekend :)

Nobody has to know, but this was a hard birth for this post. This song exists for some years but only 2 months ago it was published in an album, like other known songs. Known for those who follow these guys. And so there's a clip. Brand new. Amateur, but nobody has to know :)

gaivota

This is something I never posted because I heard it a lot. It was originally sung by Amália Rodrigues for a long time and recorded in some versions. It was covered by many artistis.
The reason I'm posting this it's just beacause I was missing this beautiful cover by "Amália Hoje" by the Gift (Sónia Tavares sings) and others.

"If a seagull would bring me the sky of Lisbon, on the drawing I would make, a sky where the look, is a wing that doesn't fly, it fades and falls into the sea.
What a perfect heart would beat in my chest. My love in your hand, the hand where would fit perfectly my heart. ... ... "

Bernardo Sassetti

Genial pianist and genial photographer.
7 days ago, after some stormy weeks, he decided to take pictures on a cliff by the sea at Cascais. It was a shiny afternoon with some heavy clouds smudging the sky as rocks.
They say he fell off the cliff. He was almost 42.

heart and soul

Something strange is hapening lately. I have heard much of new and newest music but I can't find any videoclps. Examples: The beautiful "whishes" from the brand new Beach House's "Bloom" (so new that is coming out ... tomorrow) or some well known songs from the band Spain included in their fresh album. I guess there's a video strike(?)...
Until then, let me dive into some old sounds.

Have a warm week :)

From Miguel's goodbye.

I read on the newspaper today and I saw on TV news later about a ceremony he predicted as "the Plan B". The Plan A was to surpass his disease.
And so some musicians played and sang in this ceremony. One of the songs was the one below, "sung" on piano by Mário Laginha.
The clip below is about a performance with other two great pianists more, Bernardo Sassetti and Pedro Burmester.

Friend. Bigger than the thought, come down that road, come friend. Don't waste your time, because the wind, is also my friend. .In every lands, In all borders, be welcome who comes for good. If there's someone who doesn't want to, bring him with you too. .Those ones... Those who stayed... (everywhere, worldwide) visited me in dreams. Bring another friend too.

The original song:

cold rain

I always loved this song, it's a kind of an old companion. But I never knew the meaning of its words. I always thought that this song was about some kind of hidden loss... Until now.

"I was visiting my mother in England in early 1977...
I was staying at the Midland Hotel in Manchester where, in 1960, my friend Allan Clarke and I met the Everly Brothers.
It was a typical Cold, rainy day in the North of England and I was standing on the hotel steps watching the people come and go about their daily business.
I began to think about how their lives were, what difficulties they were facing.... how miserable some of them looked battling the weather...
I used to be one of them...some of them could be me as a younger man... I began to realize, once again, how lucky I have been in my life...
Looking at all the people made me both elated and sad...
Elated because I had made the decision earlier in my life to become a musician and had 'escaped' and sad because a lot of my friends were still there battling the elements...
And I started the song on the steps of the hotel... "Cold Rain" was the result..."

Thank you Graham, John and Val :)

the alien arrived 40 years ago - take 3

Yes, "Starman" was published on April 14, but it's a song I would never post. Because I heard it trillions of times and I hadn't play any on purpose. My excuses presented, please enjoy Ziggy hymself and his Spiders from Mars, with the recommendation printed 40 years ago on the album's rear cover: "TO BE PLAYED AT MAXIMUM VOLUME".

Have a Happy Easter :)

Bairro Alto is an old district in a high zone of Lisbon. It was a modest and bohemian place and now it's a huge nightlife area.

Somehow, Thievery Corporation tried to lend to this music an environment of fado and instead of Bairro Alto, they mamed it "barrio" in a spanish way...

This neighborhood, itself, is behind the taking of this Bica Funicular's image.

ode to sad disco

Kings of Maybe: the source for a blind NetUnworkedblogs.

I couldn't wait much longer to post this. I'll be back to this amazing Lanegan's new album and to this stunning song when there is a good clip.  Apart of the 1st song, there's no promo videos. And all the live ones are amateurs as this one. Anyway this clip is good enough to share this song. Enjoy :)

the sun's tolling bell . subterranean eyes . a thousand to one . the factory line . stars outside the window flicker and shine . the hollow headed morning isn't blind . a mountain of nails burn in your hands . here i give all i am .  . gloria . i get down on my knees . further from my own .  . a tower of stones . sympathy's shade . ride a white horse . the drowned on parade . a diamond headed serpent climbs a vine . see all the lonely children . lose their minds . a mountain of dust burns in your mouth . here there's no north, just south .  . gloria . i get down on my knees . further from my own .  . thirst swollen tongue . an arcadian twist . the sleepwalk is done . yet the notion persists . cars outside the window careening by . the hollow headed morning is unkind .  . gloria . i get down on my knees . further from my own . under a cliff . darkness denied . here i have seen the light .  . here i have seen the light

25 years after

Zeca Afonso (wiki link) was a teacher and also a poet and a song composer and a singer. But he was mainly a fighter against the fascist regime ruled in my country until 1974. As many others, Zeca helped other opponents of the regime. One of these persons who also helped others, was an artist. He was killed by the political police because of his anti-regime activities. The song below tells about it in a very poetic way: "...On the roadsides there are holes made on the ground. And in all of them bloomed roses for a nation ..."

José Afonso died 25 years ago. I stood in shock, as many friends of mine. He's the musical symbol for the change.
Some time after some bands and singers made a tribute concert playing his songs. When a punk band appeared I wasn't expecting to see and feel what I felt. And it was strong and fantastic and plenty of anger and incredibly well played.
Unfortunately the registration below is far from what I saw. It is a post registration in studio with a stupid echo.

This next and short video shows a little the version I watched live:

remedy

I don't know exactly what's going on in music world but I have noticed that pop and new music are in crisis... A reflection of the western crisis? The only thing I know is that news are few and mostly weak!
So I appeal to the 90s and I ask for some remedy for this... :)

me and a monkey on the moon

New Day Dawning
I could swear I posted this song before, but I can't find it...
It is a beautiful song, mostly by the stunning 3 minutes of guitar solo from 3:50, presented long ago by (who else) AS.

I thought this could be another farewell to the unfair old year, hello New Year, please don't be so bad as you said you'll be...
