La Chanson Noire

La Chanson Noire is an artistic manifesto created by "Charles Sangnoir" in 2007.
Charles is simply brilliant in his compositions and lyrics and his voice is magnificent.
António Sérgio promoted him since the beginning and Charles thanked him as shown here.
Enjoy :)

7 years with dEUS

Never knew why this fabulous band is unknown in North America 'til last week. "The Ideal Crash", is this year's "Family Album" winner on Radar Radio, ahead of jewels as Pink Floyd "Meddle", Led Zeppelin "Physical Graffiti", Pretenders 1st album, Goldfrapp "Bossanova", New Order "Low-Life", and so on (check this list).

"The Family Album" is a weekly show that lasts for 10 years, where the story about an album known by a couple of generations is told. At the start of November, an election for that year's best family album is voted by the audience. So the truth about the unknowledgement of this band in North America is so simple and so incredible as this: none editor from that continent wanted to promote the band.
Beyond this song 1stly posted here, there are 2 other songs from this album here in KoM: "Dream Sequence #1" and "The Magic Hour". There are more to come :)

AS 5 years later plus 1

António Sérgio was one of the worlwide greatest researchers, promoters and experts of counterculture music. Working mostly as radio director, he was also journalist, reporter, columnist and music publisher.
It's the 6th anniversary of his departure and we still miss him so much. No one was able yet to surprise us every day with something different, no matter the style.
One year ago, it happened the presentation of documentary "Uivo" (Howl) together with the book "O Uivo da Matilha" (Howl of the Pack) where I was privileged to find some words of mine printed there.
"Charles Sangnoir" is one of the artists somehow supported by António Sérgio. Sangnoir usually do not compose or sing in Portuguese. But at the very end of his amazing performance, he closed the cerymony with this song thanking AS
Dictatorship of the market _ leaves you blind and gagged _ it takes a disenchanted prince _ to get the job done
When the price to pay is huge _ and we don't want hungry poets _ the fight is very hard, but noble _ made by unnamed warriors
There's a howl, there's a scream _ a soundless steel will _ to fight and resist lively _ 'cause is not the artists fault
Fashion without neurons _ must have new demons _ pop is so damn plastic _ we need something fantastic
There's a howl, there's a scream _ a soundless steel will _ of wanting no more, we are not equal _ and this howling is within you

Sorry about the image. It was the possible with a pocket camera in such an emotional and intimate environment :)

Blue Glass, one more year

"Vidro Azul" (Blue Glass) is a weekly Radio Show, one of my fave few.
It needs an artistic soul to display such a beautiful musical selection.
Here's some from the last show.

Follow it HERE

Have a nice weekend :)

Cante

This song started to be a clearly post-punk song from the 80's. It has a very beautiful lyrics and structure and it is one of the Portuguese most covered songs including Brazil, putting it in one of the most known songs worldwide.
The lyrics have a double sense. The obvious one and another, somehow the same sense of Lou Reed's "Waiting for the Man". It's your choice...
The version shared above, has the vocals of Camané, one of the most worldwide appreciated Fado singers.
However, I was surprised when I found the version below, a Cante one. It deserves a listen 'til the end:

And now, the creators of the song, 9 years ago, in a slightly more civilized version than the original:

Life goes wrong _ and never gets right _ Mischance pursues _ it hides peeking.
I never took a step _ that was the correct _ I never did anything _ that worked right.
And while I was waiting _ down the street _ I was thinking of you _ wondering about you.
I want you so much _ I want you so much.
So life is somehow _ A wild circus _ And my meanwhile _ Is my expectation.
I never took a step...

Have a great weekend :)

someone again

When the window closes and becomes an egg / Or breaks in shards of blue and magenta sky /
And my gaze has reasons that the heart does not attend / Please tell me who are you, again?

When your smell takes me to the corners of the glimpse / And the whole truth in you is so vast and uncertain /
Who am I to deny that your presence drags me? / Who are you marvel at the vastness?

Networks are fleeting, the vanishing architectures / Of all the water flowing, of all the wind passing /
When a web rips I raise my glass to the moon / And I see in the mirror one more wrinkle coming

When the roof opens wide and merges with the moon / Pointinting me the way better than any star /
Nobody makes me doubt that you were always the most beautiful / Please tell me you are someone, again?

When the window closes and becomes an egg / Or breaks in shards of blue and magenta sky /
And my gaze has reasons that the heart does not attend / Please tell me who are you, again?

question for Ana

On last " SOS Radar" Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was remembered. "The Face of Love" sung with Eddie Vedder, always reminded me another song that António Sérgio played in January 1989, on a radio show dedicated to some ethereal and unknown music. Just to put you in that ambience, I kept a little of the sounds before and after this amazing Hindi song that starts @ 1:05. I'm not sure about anything of this, and since I recorded it, I never found what it is. The sound before is something from Harold Budd's "the White Arcades". And after, there's something called or related with "Das Wunder"... After that, there would be a complete revolution with "Land of Rape and Honey" :D
What a pity, I didn't keep the original recording of this, as I reused that cassette for something else, and so we cannot hear AS talking about it...
I'm not sure if the song was played at "Santuário" topic, but I remember it was played when Sheila Chandra was most appreciated on Som da Frente.
So, Ana, my 26 yeared question is: what is this? Thank you :)

from last Blue Glass

Last "Blue Glass" (Vidro Azul) Radio show, was amazing. As António Sérgio used to, Ricardo Mariano also plays artistically when sharing the Art of music, giving us some delightful sequences. Like these ones:

And here's the complete Radio show.
Enjoy :)

Season After Season

Sorry, I've been away, I've been sick.
Found this yesterday. The album is not my kind of sound. However, I just loved this song, and it's perfect for this time.

Have a Happy New Year :}
